Aloha Wai'anae Coast Residents!

Mahalo for the continued support in our quest to Unify Wai'anae and improve our community for future generations to come. It has been one of my highest honors to serve District 45 in the State Legislature. Although we have made much-needed progress in addressing decade-old issues, these changes don’t come overnight. However, please be assured that I will continue to advocate for legislation and funding that removes barriers and creates opportunities for our community to thrive. Below are some additional goals that I will continue to advocate for if re-elected. I humbly ask for your vote of confidence and continued support in the upcoming election on August 13th and November 8th. Mahalo nui loa!

Cost of Living

  • Support and fund the creation of low-cost housing units, expedite DHHL leases to beneficiaries and develop more rent-to-own housing units to expand access to home ownership opportunities.

  • Create more access to financial support for local first-time homeowners and a streamlined process to government resources such as USDA loans and OHA funding. Support kupuna care initiatives and senior living programs.

  • Lower the cost of utility rates, vehicle registration fees, and other tax burdens that are pricing our residents out of Hawai'i.

Local Economy

  • Diversify our local economy by capitalizing on technology, community-based agriculture, healthcare, sustainable tourism, environmental protection, and other emerging industries. Create a pipeline for our high school and college graduates to reshape Hawai'i's future through collaborations between our educational system and locally-owned businesses.

  • Create greater access to capital for small businesses, support entrepreneurship, expand resources for those selling goods online, and remove barriers to help businesses thrive in Hawai'i.

  • Support the development of community-based enterprises like the Wai'anae Coast Comprehensive Health Center, which employs over 500+ residents while paying livable wages. If we can keep people close to home, it will also reduce traffic congestion on the Westside and improve the quality of life for residents.

Education

  • Provide greater resources to our teachers and keiki to ensure their collective safety, such as personal protective equipment (PPE), safety training, and greater internet access capabilities for disadvantaged students.

  • Continue to ease access to the Department of Education's (DOE) food distributions for working parents and families with students going to different schools.

  • Engage our community members in discussions about the future of our educational system post COVID-19.

Public Infrastructure & Public Services

  • Reduce Crime & Recidivism

  • Expedite transportation infrastructure projects such as the Mai'palaoa bridge replacement, extending the fifth lane from Haleakala Ave. to Hakimo Rd., synchronizing traffic signals and opening emergency access routes for daily use.

  • Implement speed reduction solutions on our side streets and install ADA compliant sidewalks on all our roadways. Complete Community Master Plan for Farrington Hwy and increase student driver education.

  • Increase pedestrian safety measures on all streets, expedite pothole repairs, and accelerate the removal of abandoned vehicles. Increase range of public services at Wai’anae City Hall. Increase Wai’anae Refuse hours to help prevent illegally dumping.

Native Hawaiian Advancement

  • Support legislation that would help calculate and expedite the distribution of the Public Land Trust Revenues for the betterment of Native Hawaiians as stated in the Hawai’i State Constitution.

  • Increase funding to programs that contribute to the revitalization and continuation of the Native Hawaiian community by supporting educational programming and efforts that embody Hawaiian values, language, culture and history as a foundation to prepare individuals for success in college, career and communities.

  • Recognize and honor the contributions and sacrifices made by the Native Hawaii community, and respect the rights of those who seek self-governance.

Homelessness

  • Increase funding for existing programs such as Rapid Rehousing Vouchers, 'Ohana Zones, and Work-to-Rent housing.

  • Fund non-profit organizations that fill the void of government by providing community outreach services and resources for those experiencing homelessness and those on the verge of becoming homeless.

  • Ensure enforcement is being conducted alongside social service providers for those trespassing at our parks to ensure public safety and stop recidivism while balancing environmental protection, public safety, and the well-being of our homeless population.
